There are many newsletters which are delivered over the Internet as emails. Traditional newsletters which were posted or faxed to subscribers are also moving to email delivery. Individuals or web sites compose brief documents covering areas of expertese or news and these are distributed to individuals who have registered their wish to receive them. This distinguishes them from unsolicited mail or "spam". They are like a one way mailing list. To jump straight to the list of newsletters click here.

Some lists will take contributions, but in general the information is assembled by the "owner". The contents may be personal opinions, clippings of current news, collections of new resources, or updates to web sites. Usually there is no charge, and, when you decide you don't want to receive it any more, you unsubscribe by following the procedure provided by the newsletter.

This a good example of what I call "pull" technology. In the UK, where local telephones calls are not free, this is a great way to collect information, and have it delivered with your daily emails. It is just like getting your daily newspaper through the letter box every morning.
